Pre-Ordering Request - CLEMATIS

While we would love to carry every Clematis variety available, every year we are forced to make tough decisions on which Clematis to offer as a 'stocked' item here at Grobe's.
For 2023 the supply of these popular plants is so limited that we are stocking as many varieties as we can. We regret that 'special orders' of varieties that are not listed here this year will not be possible.
The scarcity of supply this year means that ALL prospective purchasers may wish to consider our process of pre-ordering as an alternative to an in person visit to select your plant. The details of this are explained on the tabs below.
The first thing to know is a little bit about how these clematis become available to us.
A select group of Ontario growers produce these plants under greenhouse conditions until they are ready to ship in spring. This type of growing 'forces' the vines to produce new 'soft' shoots and leaves well in advance of those that would be found out in your garden. Traditionally clematis have not been available for walk-in purchase here at Grobe's until late April or early May (depending on the weather) to limit any possible cold injury.
It's not unforeseen that damage, crop failure or shipping issues may sometimes occur to impact their scheduled arrival here. To reduce this uncertainty, Grobe's will not offer clematis for pre-order until they are confirmed in our care and are, to the best of our ability, suitable for sale.
This process outlined here on these tabs grew out of necessity during the pandemic, and has proven to be the best way for all to be satisfied with their cherished clematis.
Our website is updated in mid to late February with all of the clematis varieties we expect to have on offer for the spring.
It is unlikely in 2023 that clematis OTHER than what is listed there will be available for special order.
Please note that those varieties we intend to have available will have names that appear like this in our gallery.
Clematis enthusiasts are a determined bunch, and we have found that the process of pre-ordering is helped greatly by compiling a 'one time' list of folks' email addresses with their clematis wish lists.
Not an order, this is only used to notify you that the process to make a pre-order purchase has begun, and to give us an early indication of what to expect.
This notification email comes to you AFTER the clematis have arrived, but BEFORE they are released for walk-in purchase.
For those who do not wish to participate with this, please know that it will be possible to select out and purchase the clematis that are remaining AFTER the pre-order period has ended. Rest assured, we do not retain any email addresses submitted here for other purposes.
Clematis will arrive here usually around late April.
Once they are verified as suitable, a formal quote (in .pdf form) will be sent directly to you via email with the total amount (including taxes) that would be owing for the clematis you have indicated on your wish list for your review.
Should you wish to make any additions or changes, that too can be done at that time.
IF YOU HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FROM ROGERS OR YAHOO, PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FILTER FOR OUR EMAILS.
If the quote is found agreeable, your purchase can be made in a similar fashion to other nursery stock (albeit a bit later than when we commence doing that for other nursery plants).
In brief, this involves calling in to our store during our designated weekday morning 'payment windows' with a credit card and the quote # you have been given, to speak to our staff to complete your purchase.
Further details on this settlement process will be sent to you with your quote, but it is generally quickly done.
Once paid, your clematis is now YOURS and will be set aside ready for pick up during our evening pick up times (which will occur in the mid to late evenings on designated weekdays within 10 days of your payment having been settled).
Please know that this pickup is generally AFTER our store has closed to permit us the necessary staff required to serve you. You are certainly most welcome to browse the garden centre before we close and pickups begin.
Once you arrive to our property, your car will be queued (if necessary) and a friendly staff member will bring your plants and paperwork to you.

Many folks often will travel some distance to find that perfect clematis. Please note that we do not ship clematis outside of the K-W, Cambridge, Guelph vicinity where we are located in Southern Ontario.
